Simunition FX® 9mm Red Marking Cartridges

Physical description of item:

The 9mm FX® Marking Cartridge is composed of a brass cartridge case, propellant, percussion primer, plastic sabot and a deforming plastic projectile filled with a detergent-based marking solution.

Functional description of item:

In order to function, the reduced energy 9mm FX® Marking Cartridge needs to be used in conjunction with a Simunition® certified conversion kit. This conversion kit bypasses the normal operation mode of the weapon to a blowback operating mode. Upon primer and propellant ignition, pressure builds inside the casing as it is sealed by the sabot and expands the telescopic sabot. The expansion of the telescopic sabot initiates a rearward motion of the cartridge case which pushes against the Simunition® conversion kit bolt face thus cycling the weapon (extracting, ejecting and feeding a new cartridge). Almost simultaneously, as pressure builds between the cartridge case and sabot, the pressure from the hot gases perforate the choke hole at the base of the sabot and the resulting pressure is released through the choke hole propelling the projectile through the barrel.
